چکیده

We have carried out measurements on metastable fragmentation of mass selected argon cluster ions which are produced by electron impact ionization of a neutral argon cluster beam. From the shape of the fragment ion peaks (MIKE scan technique) one can deduce information about the distribution of kinetic energy that is released in the decay reaction. In this study, for Ar+5 to Ar + 15, it is Gaussian and thus we can calculate from the peak width the mean kinetic energy release 〈KER〉 of the corresponding decay reactions. Using finite heat bath theory we calculate from these data the binding energies of the decaying cluster ions. High resolution measurements of kinetic energy release distributions of neon, argon, and krypton cluster ions using a three sector field mass spectrometer.

Using a newly constructed three sector field mass spectrometer (resulting in a BE1E2 field configuration) we have measured the kinetic energy release distributions of neon, argon, and krypton cluster ions. In the present study we used the first two sectors, B and E1, constituting a high resolution mass spectrometer, to select the parent ions in terms of mass, charge, and energy, and studied the...

Adsorption of O2 on anionic silver clusters: spins and electron binding energies dominate in the range up to nano sizes.

Exploring the reactivity of metal clusters is an important task in cluster science, while only a few previous studies involve the reactions of nano-sized ones. Here we report a kinetic measurement on reactions of Ag(n)(-) (n = 6-69) with O2 using a flow reactor running at 120 K. Their relative rates were obtained by fitting decay processes of parent ions at different O2 flow rates. Comparing th...

Rare Gas Diffusion in NaCl

The mobility (diffusion and trapping) of the heavy rare gases Kr, Xe, and Rn in pure and doped NaCl single crystals was measured following ion bombardment to various integrated doses (108 to 2X1016 ions/cm2) and at energies between 30 and 500 keV. No obvious effect of doping on release was found. At low gas concentrations, release was compatible with volume diffusion yielding an acti vation en...

Mass spectrometric study of unimolecular decompositions of endohedral fullerenes

Unimolecular decompositions of noble gas containing endohedral fullerenes as well as metallofullerenes were studied using tandem mass spectrometry techniques. Endohedral fullerenes do not lose the endohedral atom unimolecularly but fragment via the loss of C2 units. Kinetic energy release distributions were measured for the emission of C2 units from the positive ions of C60, Ne@C60, Ar@C60, Kr@...

Investigation of Nickle nanoclusters properties by density functional theory

Clusters play important role for understanding and transferring microscopic to macroscopic properties.Geometric and electron properties of Small nickel clusters up to the tetramer has been investigated by Density Functional Theory (DFT). Raising the number of nickel clusters atoms were indicated decreasing the average equilibrium (Ni-Ni) distance of atoms and also the binding energy of per atom...
